On 7th January 2025, NEHHDC hosted the signing of a significant MoU with the Indian Institute of Crafts and Design (IICD) Jaipur. This partnership aims to promote and modernize North Eastern crafts while empowering the region’s artisans, enhancing their opportunities for growth and recognition.
During the visit, Dr. Toolika Gupta, Director of IICD, toured NEHHDC’s Bamunimaidan premises, including the Centre of Excellence for Handicrafts and the Jewellery and Handicrafts Livelihood Business Incubator. The discussions centered around collaborative efforts for supporting artisans through incubation, acceleration, and capacity-building programs. Dr. Gupta also interacted with Shri Sujit Das, a traditional Assamese manuscript painting artist, along with IICD students engaged in a craft documentation project on Assamese manuscripts. At the CRAFT Experience Centre in Garchuk, Dr. Gupta expressed her enthusiasm for future collaborations, underscoring the potential to blend innovation with heritage, further promoting the North Eastern crafts sector and creating new opportunities for local artisans.
